Hi all,

I am a professional athlete and a non secretor type O.

I recognise that most sugars and sweeteners are avoids for type O diet. How can I get a sports drink that will benefit my performance without using sugar, fructose, maltodextrin and dextrose?

Hope you can help me out guys :)

Why do you need a "sports drink" at all? Why not just drink water?

If you feel you really need the electrolytes, make your own with agave or diluted fruit juice, and sea salt in water. Maybe add some potassium salt as well if you really feel the need for potassium. I've mixed together agave, sea salt, and a bit of lemon juice in water to drink after donating blood.

I saw something like this a while back.

Q: If you took all the unhealthy and unnecessary stuff out of performance drinks, what would you have?

A:  Salty water.

Don't drink too much water. It will decrease your thyroid.

These are the ingredients listed in Knudsen's Recharge (lemon) (a popular sports drink, available also in "organic").

FILTERED WATER, WHITE GRAPE AND LEMON JUICE CONCENTRATES, NATURAL FLAVOR, SEA SALT.

I don't know what "natural flavor" is.
But it looks like you should simply buy (or juice) a beneficial fruit juice, dilute it substantially and add some salt, to duplicate what a store-bought sports beverage offers. You could sweeten it with whatever sweetener is permitted on your diet.
Mix up a big batch of it and have it ready to go when you need it. :)
