Yesterday I had my first splurge after about three months of eating grain-free, dairy-free, and very nearly sugar-free: we got takeout from the new Indian restaurant down the street.

Now I ordered as compliantly as possible--lamb curry and plain basmati rice for myself--but also knew I'd be indulging a bit with a taste or two of vegetable pakoras, aloo gobhi, and a mango milkshake at the end for dessert. This was a celebration dinner after all! (My disability back pay came in finally and I was able to send off the money for a new mandolin, something I've been waiting for for months now).

So right before I ate I took 2 Deflect, then 2 right after the meal. A couple of hours later, before enjoying an incredibly delicious mango milkshake, I took 2 more.

The result? Today I'm just a little achy and had a slight stuffy nose on waking up. That's it. No headache, no swollen legs and hands, no mental fog or wild mood swings, no raised blood pressure.  

Would I do this every day? Of course not. But it's so nice to know that when I want to indulge in an old favorite taste that's not so good for me, or I'm faced with less-than-stellar food choices while away from home, Deflect is there to help out.

I didn't realize that you've been totally grain-free for three months!  That's really challenging, I've done it myself and it is something to accomplish!  Good for you, as I understand you need to do that right now for your edema, as even the brown basmati rice is making that flare.  I do best with some grain (brown basmati, or sometimes rye), as no-grain is GREAT for me but hard to sustain.  Hats off to you for doing so, I'm proud of you!   :K)

It is comforting and reassuring to know that once we are, as I often phrase it, "strong in our place of biochemical balance", it becomes harder and harder for any one thing to knock us out, as we get stronger and stronger in that balance.  Weebles wobble but they don't fall down!  Congrats again on how well you are doing, Brig!

I will second Brighid's praise for Deflect.

After 3 months of avoiding the culprits from my allergy sensitivity testing, I took my Mom to a quaint Victorian Tea House and ate 2 of the petite sandwiches (they offered 4 kinds) along with a compliant salad but also.....oh yes ,those delicious deserts with cream cheese, etc. :o

Within 30 minutes my stomach started to ache! :P Its an hour drive back home and I couldn't wait to get there just to take a Deflect. My stomach was fine within 45 minutes of taking one.

I don't use deflect daily but try to alternate every 2-3 days. My O Hunter DH takes a Deflect everyday. ;)

I always take it with me on vacation or when eating at someone's home or at a restaurant. Even staying as compliant as possible, when we take it outside the home, there will be avoids.

I take it everyday - 2 in the morning and extra is I'm out and can't avoid something....althou  
gh I never indulge in wheat.

Thank you everyone. :) I've taken many supplements over the years, and Dr. D's line is the best hands down. The quality is excellent. I'm not being paid to say that either.  ;) Deflect and the other NAP supplements I'm taking are making a major difference in my healing.

Along with Deflect ( I had to take one yesterday after eating a small amount of frozen pumpkin yogurt.. stomach ache...probably many avoids in it :B  Deflect knocked it out!) I also swear by Proberry capsules and give them to my family, too! I read a thread about them months ago by Peppermint Twist, noted her success and tried them. ;)

I agree that Dr. D's supps are the best:  high quality, very pure and thoughtful blends of symbiotic ingredients. Proberry caps are my fave. In tandem with my Gatherer GTD, I feel they are a shield of armor against all would-be invaders, and any that do get in are gently but firmly escorted out.

It was Deflect that made me get on the BTD in the first place.

I ordered 1 bottle and took 2 capsules. Within 20 minutes my usual brain fog lifted. I was able to think clearly and had better energy!

After that experience, the next day I went online and ordered $250 bucks worth of various BDT supplements.

Never felt that good in months. I was a believer! Still am  :)

Not totally sure but I think Deflect has an antidepressant effect on me.   Anyone else feel this?

I think it's not so much an anti depressant more it remove the stuff that depresses you.

Thank you for posting this!! I just ordered deflect and wondered if it was all they said it was, I also ordered the blueberry unibars they are my fave treat  :)

Deflect tends to work quietly in the background in my experience. You take it for a while and then you start to realize you're just feeling better. In my case it was revitalized metabolism, sleeping better at night (more restorative sleep), much less brain fog and fatigue, and blood sugar evening out. The effects were gradual but noticeable. Everyone's experience will vary of course, but I love how Deflect helps me heal.

Whoa I was just reading about this on the product page and it says it can take up to a YEAR to scrub the lectins off the receptors!! OMG!!!!!   :o  Dr. D says this is why weight loss can be slow for some.

One way this repair mechanism works is by 'prying off' lectins which have already adhered to cellular receptors, such as insulin. Since insulin blockage by dietary lectins has been linked to both insulin resistance and obesity, using DEFLECT can help accelerate weight reduction in diet-compliant individuals by speeding up the time it takes for the regeneration of new insulin receptors or the 'cleansing' of the old ones. This can take upwards of one year in some individuals who just follow the diet, and explains why some dieters do not see weight loss in the early stages of the program.

Certainly this is the strongest case I've read yet for going off wheat for good!

So I'm wondering what is in this Deflect.  I used to know years ago but didn't have patience to read the whole page.

Also, years ago I read about people taking glucosamine to combat lectins.  I'm not planning on any cheats in December nor for a while but does glucosamine help for example if you were going to eat something gluten free or with damaging lectins like corn?  I'm thinking I might want Mexican food after the holidays.  

I've eaten goat cheese recently. Does this mean there are lectins on my receptors?

DEFLECT is a natural product composed of ‘blocking sugars’ designed to interfere with the adherence of troublesome dietary lectins. Since many lectins are ABO blood type specific, there are 4 different DEFLECT formulas: one for each blood type. If you carry extra weight and/or are insulin resistant or you've eaten avoids on a fairly regular basis, you've most likely got blocked receptors.

You probably do this as well, but when I eat out I try to minimize the damage by choosing foods that are at least semi-compliant or as compliant as possible, which helps quite a bit. Anyway, if you do decide to go off the wagon so hard the wheels fall off, taking Deflect before and after the avoid(s) will do much toward protecting your health.

Dr. D has said repeatedly that it's not the same kind of glucosamine.  Invest in the Deflect.  It's well worth it!!!!

I'm good on wheat  ;D and doing better on dairy.  So like goat cheese is a black dot avoid or maybe a neutral since I don't have SWAMI to really tell me one way or the other.  I would like the Mexican food but my lectin load the last few years has been kind of bad  :-/ but at least I have made progress on the wheat. Yes, will have to look in to Deflect.

I just remembered I read in LR4YT something about green tea and blueberries to cleanse the gut of lectin damage.  Do these foods also have a beneficial effect on insulin receptors?  Are there any herbs you can take?

Jane's right--Deflect uses NAG, not the sulfated form of glucosamine, and it's vastly superior.

I've had great results from blueberries. I make my own 'soda' with Gerolsteiner and Knudsen's Just Blueberry juice, and add a bit of Proberry syrup. Very satisfying and hydrating. Haven't had the same luck with green tea, mainly because it makes me nauseous. I drink rooibos instead.

Dr. D's said cutting out wheat is the best thing an O can do for themselves :) so you're doing great. I eat goat cheese now and then as an occasional treat. Chevre makes a good substitute for cream cheese on gluten-free carrot cake. I also like hard sheep's cheeses like pecorino and manchego. They don't bother me nearly as much as cow's milk cheeses do. I don't miss the fatigue, brain fog, mood swings and clogged sinuses cow's milk always causes.

I'm not sure of specific herbs to take for beneficial effects on insulin receptors, to be honest.

Do blueberries and green tea help scrub the receptors?  Or are they only good for healing the gut?

I think they're probably better as gut healers, used in moderation.
