I recently enjoyed a hemp protein smoothie for the first time at a health food shop. Intuitively it felt right and healthy for me although I knew nothing about hemp. Now I have done some reading and am finding lots of positive comments about its nutritional benefits.

My question is about the suitability of hemp for my blood type which is O. I would appreciate some feedback about this and hemp protein in general. Also would it be a better choice for me after years of using a good quality whey protein powder which was recommended by my doctor?

I have had some thyroid and adrenal issues, have trouble gaining weight and have osteoporosis. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Hemp seeds are on my O Hunter hubby's SWAMI superfood list. It is individualized based on his input.

I just wanted to point out that for those following the GTD, hemp seed is an avoid for both gatherers and explorers. Hemp seed oil is a superfood for both gatherers and explorers. Hemp protein is not rated.

Hemp seed is a superfood for hunters and the oil is a diamond.

Excellent point C-Sharp. That's why we are fans of getting more specific with the SWAMI-- because depending on your specifics, it might not be good for you as an individual. I think I need to change my signature to "Just get a SWAMI" ;D :P ;)

I have hemp seeds as a diamond on my SWAMI, yet I didn't do well  when I tried them (pre-SWAMI.)  I was having dental problems and I bought "hemp protein powder" (really whole hemp seeds ground up) to add to smoothies, and I inuitively didn't feel good when I ate it, and overall I just didnt' feel well around the time I ate the hemp and for a few days after I stopped.

I'm afraid to try hemp again, in spite of what  SWAMI says.

If you intuitively felt  good when you ate the hemp, then it's probably good for you.

Good point. I think SWAMI is an excellent resource as it drills down. It does all come down to the individual.

Funny with foods too, we can get a bad batch or a bad additive in something and generalize it. Things can be good for us, but not at certain times. Or we can overdo something and then we need to get away from it for awhile.

When we get past all the mental junk associated with food, I think it gets a lot easier to listen to our bodies and what they truly need. When we are getting variety, I think this is even more true.

When we're not getting variety, I think we can mistakenly be drawn to a large quantities of certain foods when there are better options that have more of what we need that we haven't tried yet or aren't aware of. For me, SWAMI is about options.

Feeling a bit introspective today.  :)

And the we is probably best written as me. But I'll leave it and see if it resonates with anyone.

I have used hemp seed, hemp seed butter, hemp milk, and hemp protein powder.

I have no problems with the powder, but I feel better eating the seeds.

For most use that I would use the powder for, I can simply through the seeds in blender with a little water and get a product the feels "healthier" to me.  I have not done a lot of comparisons and I do not eat hemp products often because of cost.

This is my first thread. I have been following the blood type diet for 10+ years. I appreciate finding this place of support and information. Thanks to all for the helpful replies.
