I go to Canada frequently and buy certain foods which are either not available in the US or are made with better ingredients.  One of the most notable ingredients missing in a lot of Canadian food products is corn syrup.  HOWEVER, on one lable I was reading the other day I noticed the ingredient "fructose syrup, (corn)" which has me a little worried that some of the ingredients I thought were better are really the same with different names.

Do any of you Canadians out there know of any good resources for foods and food additives specific to Canadian labeling laws?

I think this is what you are looking for. Its a page from the Health Canada website ( called Nutritional Labeling.

I believe there are much fewer corn and sugar products in Canadian foods as they are frowned upon by Health Canada. The product you mentioned certainly sounds like corn syrup so hopefully this source will help you track down any further baddies.

Unfortunately... virtually all fructose is now made from corn. I even read this on the label of a package of fructose (that all fructose is currently made from corn products).


Not sure if it is the same in Canada or not... but I'd bet my bottom dollar on it.
