I finally was able to buy the SWAMI. I had determined I was a Warrior. I got the pack with the genotype/swami pack. I'm anxious to see if I was right and how this will work for me!!!

Listen, this is what I think: I think we can't go around measuring our goodness by what we don't do, by what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude. I think we've got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create, and who we include. Pere Henri (Chocolat)

Congratulations.  I did the SWAMI a few weeks ago and had a friend who knew how to do the measurements PROPERLY come over to help me get the correct numbers to enter.  My fingerprints were really hard to read because of so many white lines, but we figured out most of them.

When I went through the Genotype book I could NOT figure out what I was.  After doing the on line SWAMI I showed 44% Explorer and now have a diet customized for me that is a combination of the Explorer list and the BTD foods.  It is different from my former A nonnie list in a lot of ways, but after just 5 weeks I'm already seeing an improvement!

"Just do it".  And then follow it.  You will be happy.

Oh yes, and as Lola says, let SWAMI figure your genotype for you.

P.S.  After 5 weeks when my fingerprints started showing up better I redid the data for a couple of them on line and my final reading came back 48% Explorer.  My new food list didn't change at all, but it did convince me that Explorer is "where I am".  (Or what I am......)  Interesting!

6 years on ER BTD, went from sick and dying to healthier And 30 pounds slimmer.

Dec 2013: Started Swami Xpress - I'm 48% Explorer with hybridized Explorer/BTD list. A new adventure for this old lady!  -- LOST 5 more pounds on SWAMI!

swami is much better at typing than we are. with the same measurements we took we thought I was a gatherer but it never quite 'fit'. swami made it an exsplorer and it suddenly all felt 'right'.

Warrior seems to fit well with me...we'll see how it goes..I might have a percentage of something else too though

here s more on the meaning of percentage

Quoted Text
Dr D
the percentage is not how much 'you' are 'it'.

The percentage is a measure of how much 'it' is 'you.'

+Aan,

Your body will let you know if something is "off". I let my swami pick my genotype.
My only problem was if I change only my ancestry from southern to western Europe I get teacher for one and explorer for the other. Luckily the beneficials and neutrals are very similar on both. I am waiting for my "23 & me" resutls right now so when I get that information I will put it in my swami and finally decide...teacher or explorer.

The swamps..?? haha   We go to oak Glen for the apples!!!

Let me add to cajun's note... on my SWAMI, if I change from "not caffeine sensitive" (current setting) back to "caffeine sensitive", I go back to Teacher, which then adds lots of avoids, especially dairy, which I'm avoiding entirely right now, even though I get a few things.  Even though the Teacher diet was a lot more yummier with all that cheese, I gained a lot of weight on it, and the dairy makes me feel kind of "ugh".  But, even when the SWAMI gives you just the right foods, you still need to time your foods right, don't splurge on sugar, etc.  Use common sense and do what feels right for you.  For example, I'm eating my supper for breakfast (salmon and vege's in the morning), and then having just a light meal for dinner.  This has worked out wonderfully for me, so I don't feel like I'm starving all morning long while at work.  I also don't take my supplements right after eating (definitely not while eating!), but wait about 1/2 hour or so (sometimes longer) or else I choke on them and also sometimes burp them back up.  We all must do what works for our individuality.

I love Oak Glen in the fall. It's kind of a tourist trap though. My gs & I went on a night hike years ago (when I was much heavier) at Riley's & loved it!!I would be the first to leave ( after the short talk throughout the hike) and the last one to get to the next stop. I think I would do better if we did it again. (I've lost about 75 lbs...)

Adam, You are so right. Individuality.

Aan, Congrats on the weight loss! That is wonderful!
Riley's farm! When my sons were in parochial elementary school they took field
     trips there and loved it!!!

So, I have a question for Aan and Adam, since you are both warriors. Do you eat much turkey or chicken? How much fish do you eat, if any? Just curious, as it seems like from reading this forum the warriors are stricter with animal protein intake.
I remember reading about that in LR4YT and ER4YT and wonder if that keeps them slim?

I recently completely stopped eating poultry because I was just not feeling good on it.  I now eat about 3 oz. of salmon everyday while it is winter to get more good fats and vitamin a&d.

Thanks for answering, Adam. I was curious..and I read about it in the old Genotype book, not the others.
OK, so you eat just fish for animal protein.
I eat salmon 2-3 times a week but love it so much I could eat it daily.
Was it hard to totally give up the chicken?
I would rather have turkey, actually but when dining out...you know..convenience and availability. I think I am going to have to be a pescatarian when I go out to eat.

I would like to be vegan however I can't seem to let go of honey or butter. I only eat some fish once in a while. Once or twice a week. I just can't imagine living on something else's pain and suffering. Eventually I'll let go of the fish. Btw my SWAMI was supposed to come today but because of the weather now it's Tuesday...

I think Native American Indians were able to process the issue of "an animal's pain and suffering" in a very comprehensive way when they killed and ate. Personally, I would thank my fish before I swiftly chopped its head off.

If one does not eat according to one's SWAMI, it can cause an imbalance that throws one back into craving avoids. Do we want to get well the best way possible, or will outside ideals circumscribe the path to getting well? It's pretty hard to want to go back to being sick again once progress is made.

Dr. D. has recommended portions for optimum health in your SWAMI. Enjoy.

I eat 3 to 4 oz of salmon daily so I can consistently give my body a certain level of protein.  Without it, I stress out my body too much.  Just having an egg and vege protein does not cut it for me.

I have chicken as a dot, but yes, I crave that plus many avoids, but if I'm wise, I choose not to have them.

it is a comprehensive online program designed to taylor the blood type diet to your specific needs and medical history. when you purchase it they send you a packet and password that allows you to log into an online site were you answer a series of questions about your genetic past, medical history and family medical history. it will also ask you for measurements (like the genotype) and help determine your genological heritage ( warriors, gatherers, teachers, ect) and lay out a detailed dietary plan of beneficial and avoid foods as well as reasoning behind many of the choices and meal plans to help use the foods on your table.
whee, I hope that explanation helps. it was as simple as I could make it.

For salmon, I have two kinds on hand:

Canned Sockeye (3.75 oz.)

https://www.vitalchoice.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=53&idcategory=222

Frozen King (6 oz.)

https://www.vitalchoice.com/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=320&idcategory=282

For canned, I usually eat the entire can undrained with some lemon juice and sea salt added to it.  For frozen, I thaw it and cut it in half and save the other half for the next day.  After it is thawed, I clean it and remove the brown stuff that is on it which tastes terrible to me.  I then prepare it by sauteing it in olive oil, tamari, and barley malt for only a few minutes, until it is browned on the outside by the dark tamari and barley malt which makes a nice glaze to it.  I pour the remaining glaze on top of it when it is removed to a plate.  With it, I usually have some of my flax crackers on which I put small pieces of the salmon on top and eat both together with a little red wine on the side.  I love it this way.  Every single part of this meal, salmon, olive oil, tamari, barley malt, flax crackers, and red wine are diamonds.

Then, with my appetite subsided and feeling like a million bucks from all these wonderful diamonds, I can then calm down enough to prepare some live foods, which really varies depending on my mood and what I had for lunch or the previous day.  I'll even sometimes have the salmon for breakfast (minus the red wine, of course) if I'm really hungry or I want to feel really full that day due to it possibly being a stressful upcoming day for me (I work with computers and sometimes it can get that way).

I really love cooking and experimenting, I hardly use recipes anymore, except if I'm going to make a bread or crackers.  Cooking everything else I just use ingredients in the amounts that make sense to me.  I can usually take a recipe from a book and tweak it to make it SWAMI compliant, that can be a lot of fun.

Black dots are foods that might be reintroduced as infrequent neutrals following an initial washout phase.

Diamonds are considered to be better for some things such as weightloss than would be other beneficials.

The full version of your printout should contain some of these details and better describe them than my brief blurb.

From SWAMI full report:

Quoted Text
Some avoids are noted by a black dot (•). These are temporary avoids meaning that you should minimize or avoid these foods for a period of about three months, to allow your digestive system to regenerate and detoxify. Once it has been rebuilt you can reintroduce these in small amounts. Some superfoods are noted with a diamond character (◊). These are extra-special super-foods with the ability to enhance weight loss, increase immunity and slow down aging. These foods should be consumed frequently.

This is in both SWAMI abbreviated and full reports:

Quoted Text
Toxins and avoids marked with a black dot (•) should be avoided for a minimum sixty day 'washout time.' [Or 90 days to more fully cleanse the system of toxins] After that, you can then carefully reintroduce these foods back into your diet.

MIfHI                            I follow a SWAMI diet.

Listen, this is what I think: I think we can't go around measuring our goodness by what we don't do, by what we deny ourselves, what we resist, and who we exclude. I think we've got to measure goodness by what we embrace, what we create, and who we include. Pere Henri (Chocolat)
