On my Swami, tomatoes are listed as an avoid. I know in BTD it has tomatoes available for type O's. Tomato juice is listed as neutral in Swami. Why might this be? I have wondered a few times if tomatoes bloated me after eating pizza. But the pizza was noncompliant with wheat and dairy which are horrible for me so who could tell. I just bought some canned roasted tomatoes and some vegetable juice from v8. I suppose I could experiment. |

Did you indicate problems with your joints in the data entry part? I did and it made tomatoes an avoid. Otherwise they are a superfood for me. |

Tomatoes contain a levying called chitin- they're mildly irritating, a deadly nightshade. |

Well, you know the old saying about "the proof of the pudding is in the eating!" Most of us have done this and worked out our diets accordingly. Tomatoes nearly kill me in several different ways. Tomato juice is a neutral for me, but I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole. There is a reason why there is another level to SWAMI - that is where the individualization by a professional comes in. |

I think I did put joint problems. I was having knee pains a few weeks back but they are gone now so I will probably change that and see how they make me feel. thanks. |

Tomatoes and tomato juice have separate ratings because the juice (without the pulp and fiber) reacts differently in the body than the whole tomato. Since you have a "better" rating for juice than tomatoes, there must be something in the tomato pulp (the part that gets filtered out when making juice) that you don't tolerate well.
Tomato paste and canned whole tomatoes (and canned crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce, etc) have the rating for tomatoes, not tomato juice.
Read all ingredients carefully before consuming anything canned. The tomato juice part of the V-8 is fine for you, but I'm not sure what else is in there. The roasted tomatoes are definitely an "avoid" for you on your current SWAMI, but that might change if you re-run SWAMI without "joint problems" checked. But there still might be other ingredients in the canned product that are best avoided.
I usually buy tomato paste and make my own sauce from that by adding water and spices. This way I don't need to worry about corn-derived citric acid or any other weird additives. Plus it's cheaper. |
