I've been waiting three years to post this:

I didn't tell anyone that I was tested for thyroid function (TSH test) back in 2007.  I just started college and got a practically free visit to the doctor, so I was curious to see what the numbers were.  At the time I had been on the diet for about a year, but still felt like things weren't doing all that well.  The results showed a high TSH level, which meant my thyroid was too slow.  The doc prescribed Synthroid, and told me I'd be on the drug for the rest of my life.  Not exaggerating, those were his precise words.

Anyway, I didn't buy into that.  I was still in the healing process, and knew I could fix it by staying on course.  I picked up on one of Dr D's recommendations of taking a small dose of bladderwrack kelp for an extended period of time (and tossed the meds in the garbage).  About a year later, I felt like my thyroid was fine- I was more regular, I could think more clearly, had more energy, etc.

Anyway, more time passed- I transferred to Boise State from BYU-I (where I was tested) and I finally got around to scheduling a thyroid panel last week.  The TSH level was right where it's supposed to be, and the doc told me everything is normal.  He was even surprised; he told me that if my thyroid was having problems three years ago, then by now I would have been severely screwed up.  So of course, he didn't believe that it was because of any diet or naturopathic route- he tried to convince me that I contracted a virus or something when my original test was performed. (insert laugh here)

Anyway, I have both records in my hand right now- and I'm going to fax them to the doctor that tried putting me on Synthroid.  Along with a note about the BTD   I already tried telling him about the Blood Type Diet, but he thought it was nonsense.  Now I have something he can't argue with- bona fide medical records!  Thanks again Dr D & everyone on the forums

Hi Paula,

Let's hope that even on thyroid medication we can still help to rebuild healthy thyroids. I have heard of people being able to get off Synthroid when the diet is right.

I just tried to PM you and couldn't! I'm not sure what is happening there. I had trouble replying to your previous message to me too.

Eric,

Great news!

That is how I confront the "mainstream" medical doctors now and then. A fact is a fact is a fact and no theory can refute it as being a fact!

This is great Eric!  So glad for you.

I don't know if I could ever come off Synthroid (that would be nice but I doubt realistic) but I do believe that what is left of my thyroid does function better and that I will not have to take as much of Synthroid as I would have to without BTD.  I believe I'm helping the med work at top level and I feel so much better than I ever did.

wonderful news Eric.  I think the same thing happened to me in reverse.  2 years ago my thyroid was running high normal.  My doctor @ the time was trying to find out why I was losing weight & having insomnia.  He didn't want to write it off as menopause so that was good.  Anyway a year on BTD, new doctor requested my medical records said my thyroid needs to be to be checked again said my thyroid was just fine.  Maybe I should get a copy for my old doctor.

Thanks so much for the support everyone!  Past and present

kauaian- that's great!  We should start our own talk show lol

Dr D- I told the MD about the link b/n the colon & thyroid.. about how during malignant stages blood type antigens will be expressed in one, but not the other and vice versa.  He didn't seem to care at all.  I guess when you work at a health center and don't really get any incentives for learning anything new, it's a recipe for apathy.  Once again, thanks for sharing all your research and passion

Please give me links on colon-thyroid connection. My mother has Hashimoto hipothiroidism and colon cancer, my cousin De Quervain disease, my brother is hypothiroid and I suspect also my sister is on this road. They all did not accept BTD, though now my sister is implementing it for her and her family Houray !

This is a really good article... though extremely wordy :/  Definitely worth studying though! (speaking to myself lol)

Here's another good one:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2001419/pdf/brjcancer00530-0016.pdf

"The present study has confirmed that normal thyroid tisue, whether from a normal gland or associated with a neoplasm, is A, B, H and Y BGI (Blood Group Isoantigen) deficient and has shown that this state persists in both hypo- and hyperthyroidism. Thyroid adenomas, though generally antigen deficient, did in three of 13 cases show evidence of BGIs. This forms an interesting parallel with the situation in the descending colon and rectum. This organ displays the same pattern of blood group antigen deletion during late embryological development (Szulman, 1964) and also shows a progressive re-acquisition of BGI by benign adenomatous polyps..."

Direct link between wheat and the thyroid.

Get rid of the nasty lectins and the body is so much happier and will reward you.

The body is biased towards wellness/health.

Ah.. I think I get it.. O vegetarians/vegans damage the thyroid (  by eating bad lectins) which in turn leads to  unhealthy colon cell changes.
