I've read that hose chestnut is the best way of supporting these veins. This is the first one I've had; I only have a little circle of them on one leg for a few years, but suddenly this week one is bulging. They are all hot to the touch; most of my veins go deep into my muscles so I am blesses, for the most part. Anyone had any success clearing this kind of condition up? |

Exercise, no standing or sitting still for long periods of time, elevate leg above heart when sitting. Once the vein is bulging the blood is leaking backward due to gravity. Untreated, they may get worse with possible skin inflammation or phlebitis. With treatment, the leaks are sealed off resulting in normal flow again. Yup, been there, done that, and am there again now. Yours sounds like the way mine started when I was only 25! My Dad has the exact same veins protruding as I do on the same leg! He said we can thank his mother. I said I know it wasn't from Mom's side as all my great aunts, grandmere and my Mom had/have beautful smooth legs until they died/ or old age(Mom is 80). Mine were also the result of my job as a dental assistant from college until I was about 27 years old. Stood all day and wore those awful knee-hi stockings that cut off circulation just below the knee. Anyway, sclerotherapy, laser, and a radio frequency treatment are the general methods. I had sclerotherapy in the 90's and it has been great. Now I have let another one go way too long and am going to see the doctor tomorrow for an ultrasound. |

I would have expected treatment to be having the bed end raised, not lowered??!! As in Cajun's suggestion: "elevate leg above heart when sitting" |

I don't watch Dr. Oz very much (or at all), but happened to see him do something on new treatment for spider veins (don't know about varicose veins). It's a new injection that is pain free and works immediately. They did a treatment right on the show and it was miraculous! It wasn't hideously expensive, either. Let me see if I can find the link.... |

I have been taking connectivar and unfortunately it is not working....How long do I need to wait before I see any results? Im kinda discouraged about it!
My leg veins (spider and varicose are so embarrassing....especially working in a gym...I have to wear shorts every day and feel very self concious about it. |

Thank goodness I went to the vein specialist. I have phlebitis...a clot in each leg! One seems to be old!!! Ayee-yiee-yi!! The doctor performed the ultrasound with me standing.....as I watched the screen and he explained all the images/backflow and measurements. a normal vein is about 3.5 cm....mine were 5, 7 and 10!!!!!!! I purchased the "second skin" stockings and made the appointment for an elaborate mixture (due to positioning of bulging and clots) of ultrasound guided schlerotherapy, and heat/radio frequency treatment. It will be about 25 minutes per leg and I walk for 15 minutes immediately afterward. The last time I was there was 1998 for a bulge in one calf. He did the small injections and that part of my leg is still great. The doctor also said I was fortunate to be an active person and to keep it up because if I had been a couch potato....well....quite another story! He was amazed at my resting heart rate of 49. |

Seraffa, Please find a vein center with a physician specializing in venous disorders when you get to Houston. The best treatments are Sclerotherapy (not saline) or endovenous laser (thermal ablation) for varicose veins but if you only have spider veins there are simple injections. Meanwhile, Elevate legs several times a day. Walk at least 1/2 hour daily. Avoid sitting or standing for prolonged periods...("rock" back and forth on toes if standing in line) keep blood pumping Go barefoot when possible Eat high fiber fruits and veggies and lower sodium intake Avoid hot baths and do not smoke |

You might want to consider researching quercetin for your veins. |

Well, I'll just put my two cents worth.
I inherited varicose veins in my left leg. And yes they continue to bulge especially as I get older. There are times when either through exercising or raising my feet above my heart when the veins are hardly noticeable. I only wear long pants much to my dismay especially because the summer's are so hot. I long to wear capris again - that's my goal.
Today I bought among Astragalus, Dong Quai, Horse Chestnut. Please take a look at the benefits of Horse Chestnut. It seems to address leg veins in particular.

I have been experimenting with sugar and carbs while doing my inclined bed therapy.
when ever i eat sweets or carbs by lower leg is slightly painful and throbs.
I suspect that there is a link with sugar and problems with veins in the leg. i also fin that the raised bed helps a lot.
I have read a lot about this and it would seems that a lot of people including my own doctors say that raising the leg has no benefit.
as for lasers and surgery, there has to be a better way, surely.
the walking twice a day seems to be the only popular theory. but drinking a reasonable amount of water seems to help to. but nowhere near the alleged 8 glasses. 3 seem to be ideal with me.

I haven't read all this, so forgive me if I'm repeating. I took white oak bark when I was pregnant and had terrible--perhaps dangerous--varicose veins. I took 9 capsules a day and the problem went away in just a couple of days. This is what I took: http://www.soulhealer.com/730-7.htm"White oak bark's astringent properties tighten tissues and strengthen blood vessels, making it ideal for treating diarrhea, hemorrhoids and varicose veins. The blood-clotting agents active in white oak bark are also helpful to cease nosebleeds." |

Did you guys watch that Dr. OZ vid? It's a new treatment, not particularly expensive, pain-free and works immediately. As I said, I rarely watch that sort of thing, but this happened to be on and I was impressed. |

If it is not expensive, I wonder how hard it would be to find a doctor to treat them in that manner. |

Trust me, most all treatments are expensive. It does have something to do with heredity.
I took horse chestnut, grapeseed and grapefruit seed extract and a many other "natural" supps over the years. My veins get worse with age.(As do my Dad's, as did his mother's)
I haven't worn shorts in years (outside of my house)...and I live in the desert!!!!!
The only reason I called my vein doctor last week was because for the first time I had an actual red, hard, hot and painful spot inside my knee, just below my worst bulging vein. Thank God I finally paid attention...I have a blood clot in both legs. I am having a combo treatment done this coming Tuesday, will have to walk a continual hour a day with special surgical stockings (worn all day) for 3 weeks. I will not be able to lift weights or jog/run but can do yoga and walk. |

I also take quercetin daily. And the treatments are not pain free...you are stuck with a needle and/or have a small wire device inserted into the affected vein. It is rather uncomfortable. |

Started taking butcher's broom for the varicose and spider veins...I hope this helps some. I am serious considering the sclerotherapy. This is the last straw for me...sometimes I have pain in my legs (mild), and yesterday while working out at the gym, one on the inside of my left knee was bulging...Im 39! This is not right! I couldn't see in the back of my leg, but I bet it was just as pretty! |

All natural therapies are great...if you don't have phlebitis! That is the only reason I went for treatment. Blood clots are serious, anywhere in the body. I am on my second week of walking and wearing the skin tight stockings in our 100 degree desert heat....but thank goodness my veins are better off! |
