Source Naturals sublingual melatonin might help. Start with 1 mg at bedtime. |

Check out a few guidelines here: http://www.dadamo.com/bloodtype_A.htmAlso, do a forum search to find previous discussions of this issue for Type As. Exercises like hatha yoga and t'ai chi have been shown to reduce cortisol levels. Cortisol is a stress hormone. Have you had your blood pressure checked lately? |

Sleep is very healing and incredibly important. If you don't get enough sleep, all kinds of things start falling apart.
You've gotten lots of great information here- but chances are that many of these suggestions aren't things you have in the house and won't be able to obtain before bedtime tonight. Many non-drug ideas take a while to work- sometimes a relaxation technique works well enough that you do it once and "fix" the problem, at least temporarily, but sometimes you need to do an exercise numerous times, over several days, before you really feel the effects.
Given the choice between not sleeping, or taking a drug to help you sleep, you're probably better off taking the medicine tonight. Hopefully you'll get releif from natural remedies so you can sleep without medicine tomorrow night- but if not, do what you need to do, so you can get enough rest while you work on deeper healing. If you still need meds to sleep after 3 or 4 nights, you'll need to re-evaluate risks vs benefits, but right now, for tonight, the meds might be the best choice. |

I have this problem and am now using ambien, a pharmacuetical, which is not a great thing to do, but I simply must have some sleep, and it only works so-so....but I will go off it when I feel more rested.......(iI've been on it in the past and got off it with the help of theanine and melatonin) best of luck...... |

Hope ya wake like Rip Van Winkle (I was going to say Rumpelstiltskin....dunno how well he slept though...) The medications do not induce the same quality of sleep as natural sleep. I, too, have gone 5 days without sleep in the past....so far I think that's the max I've endured. All the best! |

Be sure to dim lights in the evening and stay away from the computer and any stimulating programs. Do not eat too late at night or exercise too late. Saw on a program the other day that pumpkin seeds help to produce melatonin naturally in the body. You can use a coffee grinder to grind them to put in a shake or eat as is but chew well to reap the benefits. Hope you have a good nights steep tonight. Sleeping is my favorite thing to do. Oh and do some deep breathing. |

Hey fitness, When are you working out? Is it closer to bed time?
I get insomnia if I work out to close to bedtime and if I'm over training. I will be mentally and physically exhausted and when I try to sleep I feel like I injected caffeine straight into my veins....that's always my personal indicator that I'm pushing too hard in the gym.
I also have to be very careful with what foods I eat at dinner and before bed.
Good luck to you, I know how incredibly frustrating it can be. |

High cortisol levels can do this. |

Do I remember correctly that you are eating a really large amount of protein each day? If so, you might examine the balance in your diet. |

Fitnessaddict, what GT are you? I know as an explorer that doing more intense exercsie helps me to feel more relaxed and balanced and sleep deeper. If you are a teacher, a combo of more and less intense exercise is said to be best. If you are a warrior, you should engage in some walking and tai chi or qi gong or other softer exercise. |

Qigong can truly flush out cortisol and enhance your stress handling a good bit...it also helps flush adrenaline and restore spend energies. I think its great for all blood types. It seems to make me manic if i don't do enough physical intense exercise to balance it though. Thats just me. |

Fitnessaddict, do you have the Geno Type Diet book? If so, in the back is the advanced calculator. In looking at this, it looks like type A's can be Teacher, Explorer, or Warrior. I believe that is it. Getting more info, such as Rhesus + or - and A subtype would help. Also, if you have health insurance, you can get all of this info with one blood draw. You could also ask for your Lewis phenotype and MN phenotype. Simply measuring whether your torso is longer than your legs or visa versa and your upper leg length vs lower leg length and whether your index fingers or ring fingers are longer would give you a lot of information. Those are fairly simple measurements. |
