Hi there, O here and just started back up on the live right diet this week, everything has gone GREAT up until now... Been having a great morning until all of a sudden my handful of walnuts did not satisfy my protein craving, so i went ahead and made myself a soy steamer at work (work in a coffee shop)and that seemed to hold me until i got home, where i had my canned tuna lunch with collard greens a little broccoli, and an onion, ginger horseradish concoction i came up with to top it off. afterwards i was feeling ok, had a little carb craving, which i get since i am tired 75% of the time, which i am working on, just got up from a nap, so i had a couple bites of pumpkin then all of a sudden it was like ok i NEED calcium. This very factor is what threw me off the diet in the first place, i started working out so much each day without getting near enough calcium and one day my body just said forget it and i was reduced to siphoning down soy milk all day with cherry juice and anything that might have a slight trace of calcium in it, bread, figs, mangoes, butter, hemp milk, anything i could get my hands on i wanted as long as there was calcium in it. This eventually knocked me so off balance i had forgotten how good it felt to be on the diet in the first place and resorted back to old habits, which i did not enjoy but just could not find myself a way to get out of it, i was stressed, my body was stressed, i was done. Then finally after what seemed like a lifetime of struggling i slowly started to get my head back into the game, returned to vegetables, a nice small sandwich for lunch, oatmeal in the morning, then i knew what my body really wanted, its diet back, my diet back, so here i am feeling great but once again wanting that calcium, i know i can't afford to go back down the same path, instead i feel if i can get over this hump things will be much more on track. Oh, and yes i do have the type O calcium pills which i tried before but for some reason i felt like they were throwing me off also, but could that have been because i was not following the diet per-say at that time? Either way i would like to take care of this problem more naturally if possible, just not a pill fan. Any advice is appreciated and well considered, my ears are open
I would use the NAP calcium, sardines are a great source. Something to think about back in the day when humans were all O's & hunter gatherers they did not have access to any dairy & I don't think osteoporosis was rampant then. I don't know about the soy consumption, most O's do not do well on soy.
Ya, the soy was not good. I only drink it because i feel like i really need some calcium, but i do not enjoy it whatsoever. I have tried sardines but they were just not my favorite, but i could try once more if it is going to help, and as for the vitamin d? possibly, that does raise a good question, i would say that yes i am with all the vegetables and fruit that i eat everyday, but maybe my body is not adjusted to start absorbing things correctly all the way yet, since i am still in the beginning stages of things.
I am pretty new around here and I know that others that are experts will answer your question but I second the addition of sardines. I was struggling for a minute with the calcium issue but now that I have sardines at least once a day if not every other day. I feel really good about my calcium intake (along with a nice supply of green veggies). I hope this helps somewhat. Blessings to you on this journey.
farmer cheese, feta, goat, mozzarella are all neutral in the Live Right book. also ghee is listed under dairy. If you did the geno and came out as gatherer you will get some of these and cottage cheese as a bennie. So you might need to go one step further. Even if the food is a neutral you are still getting the nutritional value.
Broccoli is a bennie and is high in cal. Check out other veggie for cal content as well. As are some of the different nuts.

Don't forget about bone broths- if simmered long enough and made with enough bones in the water, bone broth can be as high in calcium as milk. If you drank broth every day, plus ate some sardines or salmon (with the bones mashed in) you'd be getting plenty of calcium from your diet.
If you're getting calcium from bones, it already has the magnesium and other co-factors you need to absorb it, but if you're taking calcium pills, you need to make sure you're getting enough magnesium and vitamin D. Actually, taking extra D is a good idea anyway, especially in the wintertime in northern lattitudes. Most Americans are vitamin D deficient.

deblynn3, Thank you for the input, i usually have mozzarella sometime throughout each week, sometimes goat cheese, which i particularly like just is more expensive. but this week i had cut back since i felt there was too much dairy in my diet there for a while, but that might be all i need, and earlier in the week i was craving some goat cheese but i just passed it off without thinking about it, maybe i will just go get some and see where that takes me and as for the bone broth, sounds delicious, just need some bones!
i eat the max amount of fruit and as many vegetables i can get my hands on each day, nuts are covered, fish for lunch, grain at dinner or for snack or both, beverages? i can't really think of anything i am missing, maybe some seltzer water. and for poultry i could be low on that. have not had my weekly chicken yet, so that could be it as well. o and i have one boiled egg each morning for breakfast.
and when i feel like calcium i don't get any cramps or anything, i just really want foods with calcium, today figs, mangoes, butter, almond butter, were all things that i really wanted and had, but i will be needing some more tomorrow, as for today i have had enough fruit.
How about canned sockeye salmon with the bones included? I just mash the bones with a fork . . they're so soft.
And the type O calcium is nothing but a variety of seaweed . . very natural and a simple formula. Nothing like trying to digest many calcium supplements made from chalk.

Where's the meat? Are you eating any red meat? As an O, it can really help you get the energy you need. You might be tired because you are low iron. I don't know you, but if I were you I would get my iron levels checked.
What makes you think it is calcium that you need, it looks like more of a craving for sugar. you would get plenty of calcium from broccoli etc.
that and the fact you are eating the max amount of fruit makes me think you have a sugar issue, if you don't mind me asking what are you height and weight etc.
Policychecker- I am 5' 8'' weigh about 139, and i do crave sugar because i get up at 4:50a.m. four days out of the week and i am lacking on sleep because many nights i have not been able to sleep well until this week when i started back up on the diet and i feel like my body just needs to catch up, which i have been doing and am feeling much better. and i am really hoping eventually i will be able to cut back down on the sugar since i feel it is too much as well. as for the calcium problem though, i did just have a good amount of butter with some broccoli, and a lamb sausage, with a little black beans on the side, maybe that is more what i needed, the butter, beans and meat, made me feel ten times better.
christaalyssaA+, thanks for the concern, and i think you are on to something, it is a good possibility that i am low on iron since before i started back up i know i was not getting my weekly amount of red meat, but i was eating meat. but the lamb sausage is kicking butt right now.

My Dr (ND) says you don't really need calcium, you only need to take vitamin D...I forgot to ask him why (prob has to do with the aid in absorption but then again if you're not consuming calcium, vit D wouldn't be much help). Anyhow, I LOVE vanilla hemp milk (Pacific foods) and it has 50% calcium per one 8 oz cup. I am still not 100% sure about hemp milk, but my Hunter diet says hemp oil and hemp seed are ok so I drink it. It has brown rice syrup. It gives me a ton of calcium and is my new love ♥. Try it if you can, they sell it at Sprouts and Whole Foods (unless of course, someone says we're not supposed to drink it, ).

made myself a soy steamer at work (work in a coffee shop)
that coffee is doing you more harm than good causes insulin resistance in us Os and much much more.....like extracting the little calcium in your body for lack of CLA and good protein sources.....make a chart and try adding from all your food groups....DR D has done the work, calculating your calcium and other vitamins and minerals into your plan

i figured as much about the coffee in the first place, it was just the last thing i was willing to let go of this time, even though the first time i was more than happy to say goodbye to the devil bean. and i guess i knew it affected me, just maybe not realizing how much. Thank you for saying something berfore things became any worse. Starting tomorrow no coffee. just water. here we go.

Sometime, consider Dr. D's incredible green tea with toasted brown rice. OMG! It is so good I never miss the coffee I used to be so addicted to!
