I really need to heal my gut.  I'm following Swami but I still seem to have horrid gas, burping and horrendous bloating at times.  Since being on the Swami routine, I've lost weight and feel mentally great but my stomach has not gone down.  My waist has but my stomach remains bloated to one degree or the other.

My Naturalpath suggested that it might be a FODMAP issue but that is impossible to try and follow.  

Another site suggested Small Bacterial Intestinal Overgrowth and that makes some sense to me.

I have checked off the Digestive Issues on my Swami but yet Swami give me many foods that the Fodmap tells me to avoid or limit.

I'm so confused and supplements are not helping much.  

In reality if it will help, I can get a bit tighter with Swami recommendations like less ghee, less agave, not so much fruit, take out soy milk - which is a black dot for me, etc., etc.  

I'm not sure what else to do.  This site makes sense and the video (scroll down the page to see vid) makes a lot of sense  http://scdlifestyle.com

But to consult with them is expensive.

Thoughts? Experiences?

Re these two - by all means! Sugar, incl fruit sugar, promotes bacteria overgrowth.

Soy is an allergen for O, and if you don't make the soy milk by yourself, you have no way to know if it contains additives or traces of additives. I always assume it does and have stopped touching ready plant milks, incl organic, that stand on the shelves. Have you tried to prepare almond milk from almond butter at home? Just dilute it.

There are several protocols that you could choose from to help this issue.  The Intestinal Health Protocol, the Detoxification Protocol, or the Anti-Bacterial Protocol may all be of assistance.

I have some of the same issue that I have lost most of the excess weight from everywhere else, but the stomach bulge goes up and down depending on how much detox in happening and how well my liver / digestive system is functioning...

I take Fucus Plus and have been taking Gastro-D complex but recently ran out.  I also take Deflect, Bromelain, Tumeric, Stinging Nettle/Quercetin, Quercetin Plus, Collinsonia Plus as well as the regular sups.. i.e. daily multi, Fish Oil, Vit D, etc.

I have taken Astragalus which is in the Antibacterial Protocol.. so I will start that up again.  A few days ago I ran out.   I'm taking Fucus Plus and doing Saunas which are recommended in the Detoxification Protocol; and I'm taking L-Glutamine and NAG which are recommended in the Intestinal Health Protocol.

However regardless of all these supp's, my gut seems to flare up, and worse recently, when I eat the foods on the FodMap list.. i.e. cherries, Okra, beans, cheese, peaches, onions, agave, etc.  and this is where I have a hard time believing that my Swami would guide me wrong when it comes to digestive issues because my Swami lists most of the Fodmap avoid foods as beneficial or even diamonds and that makes it very hard for me to want to give up these foods.

So I will start by cutting out the only black dot I have been consuming - a non-GMO, organic soy with no other ingredients and begin to really hone in on the portion sizes of the fruits which truly have not been excessive.  I have like one banana a day, maybe  1 or two dates and 1 or 2 prunes.  So you see, it may not be the fruit that is upsetting my gut but maybe the onions.  I eat a lot of onions... or possibly the onions and the Okra combined.  

Last night I had a totally fully beneficial meal - Salmon, Sweet Potato and roasted collard greens in olive oil and my stomach flared horribly.  But it may have been a flare up from the overly moderate serving of Skinny Crisp crackers I had at lunch which have beens and almond flour as their base and the meal pushed those foods from lunch down into where they could really erupt because that's what it felt like.  Does anyone know if roasted foods cause stomach distress?  I've taken to only roasting them lightly (slightly browned) due to Chloe's wonderful guidance on the Roasting Thread.

I also notice on my Swami that my allowance for Vegetable Glycerine and Stevia and chocolate are very low:   0-1 tsp per day but I use lots more than that in my teas and cooking with the only chocolate I'm getting being the Carob/Chocolate Extract from the ER4YT Store.  Do you think these items are causing a big intestinal problem?  I wouldn't think so.. but ???

Did anyone watch that video on the Small Intestinal Bacteria that I sent in the previous post and if you did.. what are your thoughts?  I'd like my issue to be simpler rather than more complex i.e. I don't want to have to cut out foods my Swami recommends even though I willing to cut back on foods if I need to.  

Thank you all so much for chiming in... I feel the gut issue is so important as it is the key to the highway to the rest of many of our health issues and even though my joints have improved immensely... they still are not 100% which to me means my gut is affecting them.

Cutting out the soy may make all the difference.

For your sensitive stomach, banana has to be consumed on an empty stomach. Otherwise it may cause troubles. Banana is digested the fastest, matters of minutes, and if you take it with or after any other food it starts to ferment immediately. So banana may be one of the culprits.

I would also try to omit the onions for a while and see if there's an improvement.

I'd also bring back the Gastro-D for support, although Fucus Plus soothes the stomach greatly.

I hope things are straightened out and calmed down soon and all suffering vanish

With all the stabilizers in soy milk, you'll probably notice a remarkable difference once you kick it.  I did, it was really screwing me up.

On the milk: I make my own almond milk (Yaeli suggested the almond butter version. I use a blender with nuts).  You may want to try that instead of soy. It is also possible to buy almond milk without additives.

Intrinsa seems like a good choice to me.

You may want to use polyflora to shift the biome of your gut to something better for your type.

If you are think that carbohydrate metabolism is part of the problem, you might want to look at the El Dorado supplement.

Wholeheartedly agree with the above.

yes Intrinsa.. I'm going to look into that.  As far as almond milk, I haven't found one commercially that is without additives.  I found one that is close and that is what I will use when I have to travel and cannot make my milk on the road.    Can you supply the name of the almond milk that is free of additives?!  I would love to find that or have my store order it.

Ok no soy milk today and it was a pretty good day overall until dinner.  I ate onions and now I am bloated and gassy and burpie.     

Also having some very WEIRD joint pain in my right hand.  I can't remember banging my hand but I may have as I've been very busy cleaning house and cooking in preparation for a trip and my Mom coming at xmas.  I'm hoping it's not from some ingredient that is in the new almond milk I purchased at Fred Meyer by Simple Truth.  (see ingredients below)

Sadly C-Sharp none of the above choices in Almond Milks are available in my area.  So when I'm home and have time, I can make my own but in the meantime I found the one I mentioned above and it has the following ingredients:

Filtered Water, Almonds
Tricalcium Phosphate
Sea Salt
Gellan Gum
Dipotassium Phosphate
Xanthan Gum
Sunflower Lecithin
Vitamin A Palmitate
Vitamin D2
D-Alpha Tocopherol (Natural Vitamin E)

None of the gums are listed on my Swami so I felt I was ok there.  The only thing that looks suspicious to me is the Sunflower Lecithin.  Anyone know about this?  Is it related to Sunflower Oil as that is an Avoid on my Swami.

The brand I mention in my post above is a new brand called Simple Truth.  Here in the NW there is a big chain store called Fred Meyer.. they are now producing Organic products entitled Simple Truth.  they have grass feed beef and all kinds of things.  This Almond milk is a new product.  

The Silk products I have encountered so far I have not liked.. but I'll review them again.

Understood.

I'm not saying you should, only that you have the option if indeed the Intrinsa would be helpful.

It's a way to get the short chain fatty acids in larger quantity for a 'protocol' period of time.
Intrinsa has the benefit of being a (much) more pure version of what you want.

In any case I would not use larger quantities of ghee for an extended period of time. But using it that way for a few weeks is something that some (select) people would derive benefit from.

Clearly the onions give you problems, but that could be due to the damage caused by the gums. This stuff is like plastic.

I would treat any gum as suspect, not neutral. Only because new ones keep popping up up to replace older ones that develop bad reputations. There is a pattern here.

Ghee has is high in gut-healing nutrients. "Too much ghee" may well inhibit weight loss, but IMO it's unlikely to case GI problems. I would try cutting out the black dot food, and limiting the portion sizes of fruits and sweeteners. Cutting back on onions can't hurt either, as long as you're getting enough total veggies. Stevia in "larger than suggested" portions is less likely to cause problems, as it has a sweet taste but doesn't actually contain any nutrients that might feed gut bacteria. Fruit, honey, agave, and veg glycerin all can feed the "bad germs" in your gut.

I was only using one black dot but I'm now eating NO black dots and have cut way back on Agave except in the Chocolate/Carob Syrup and the BTD Protein Bars.

also keeping with the thread title.. I had a bit of healing in my gut when I was eating a lot of nuts during the day.  my stools were actually solid and regular.  I've cut back on the nuts and now i'm back to diarrhea   ???  But I'm also taking ALOT of supp's which include Caprilic Acid.  Not sure if a cleansing is happening because of that or what.  I feel fine other than the diarrhea.    I'm also back to some bad gas and some burping.  not as much as before but it seems to flare up here and there.

swears by her.  My friend had a belly bug that would not go away and no doc's could figure it out.  She went with this woman and got it figured out and healed.

I would use smooth (creamy) - because it may come out as a smoother milk.

It seems like the only real difference would be if the almond butter has added oil.
