Does any other Type A wake up w/ sour stomachs or feel like their stomach is just churning acid so they can't even drink water w/o getting sick? If so, what do you do for it?

My stomach has been on the "blink" for the past few weeks so I know what you are talking about.  For the last few days I've tried eating lighter (and I'm talking about healthy food).  

Last night I didn't eat anything after 8PM and when I woke up this morning my stomach felt normal.  We've all heard this a thousand times about eating at night but under duress it doesn't seem to fly in the moment.  

Isa, I also would like to know what DGL from Natural Factors is? I'll probably pick some up and keep it on hand.  How much do you take on a regular basis?

I've tried this and it never seemed to make a difference. Sometimes the stomach churning was even worse. It feels like there is absolutely nothing in my stomach whatsoever and it's just churning it's own digestive juices. I've even tried eating before bed. I've tried them both

Joy, as a matter of fact, I got sick last night. I have to watch my combos of food and how much of it I eat.. And the clincher, is I don't even lose weight when that happens because my body is so acidic.    One of the things that bothers me is dairy. If I eat too much dairy, I tend to get acid reflux. The more compliant I am, the less indigestion I have. I was not so compliant this weekend..   sometimes the only thing that works is cutting out grains and all sugar for a few days till my stomach settles down, then I try to eat more balanced.

Are you waking up very early in the morning?  I find that when I get up early (say 6:30AM or earlier) that my stomach is very churny and acidy no matter what I've eaten.  I just assumed it was a normal part of digestion that I normally slept through.

Weird so many chiming in with recent stomach issues.  I had the most godawful stomachache for the past two days that I couldn't even stand up to do the dishes last night.  I have no idea what caused it, but my guess is on the spelt I ate for the past two days.  I'd never had it before.

As for DGL, I think Tomatilla may be referring to deglycyrrhizinated licorice.  It's licorice with a somewhat dangerous chemical removed.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deglycyrrhizinated_licorice
DH used to take it for canker sores.

It's licorice root..looks tasty. I love black licorice!   works on my stomach also and mint..mint always settles my stomach.. I used to eat chocolate chip mint ice cream if I had digestion problems(my favorite flav oh, yeah, and chunky monkey, yes I know it's banana)..Now, I just eat chocolate mint. Then there's cherry garcia..yummo..pistachio..Good thing I don't eat ice cream that much..caramel pecan crunch..

Yes, ginger helps me also. If I cook with fresh ginger, I never have digestion problems..(Indian food rules)

My Darling Daughter (Type A) used to get the kind of sour stomach that you describe before she became totally committed to the BTD.  For instance since coffee was beneficial, she would get a Cappuccino -which is loaded with milk and syrup.  Or she would stay away from soda at a restaurant but get an artificial lemonade or fruit punch.  

What we finally decided was that avoid foods combined with too much sugar inflammed her stomach, and it took several days, sometimes a week, for the inflammation to subside.

Peppermint tea and ginger juice helped the most.

DUH on the DGL!!! I used to know that, lol!
I've had this issue w/ my stomach for years, I was wondering if it was a Type A issue. I get it even if I wake up later on my days off, but I usually get to bed later, too, so I'm getting about the same amount of sleep. Yeah, I recently tried Spelt... it was interesting.

I'm going to hae to try the licorice thing, I cook w/ fresh ginger, too, on occcassion. It did seem to help my gassiness a bit last time.

Thank you! I'm a caramel machiatto girl here. And a diet drink drinker, too. I keep thinking I might be able to get away with eating some avoids as long as I stay away from most but I don't know. Like an 80/20 thing, but then i wonder if that's enough to make a difference and then I worry that I just don't have the willpower to go 100%, you know? It's something I'm probably going to have to do to get rid of my multiple health problems, that's why I'm doing this. It's very daunting, though, especially with all the foods you have to make at home because pre-made (like non-dairy milks and such) all have avoids in them.

Diet drink drinker? Are you drinking diet drinks with aspartame? That's an avoid. It gives me burning in my stomach.  I can't drink peppermint tea. It's too strong for me..also Altoids peppermint   ow. I can however eat the Altoids chocolate mint ones..so good. I gave them up though..

As an aside, I gave up Altoids when I read that gelatin is an ingredient. Not only is gelatin an avoid, it's made from animal parts that I don't wish to consume. Bummer. I used to really like them.

Regarding sour stomach, this only happens to me rarely. There are certain foods that trigger it, but I choose not to eat them anymore (most of them are avoids anyway) such as orange juice and tomato sauces. I don't like the taste of artificial sweeteners so that takes care of the diet sodas. Unfortunately, I like the taste of sugar  .

Have you been drinking warm lemon water first thing in the morning? I know it sounds counter-intuitive to drink acid for an acidic stomach, but...

Ewwww. I really need to read the ingredients more often.. I've always hated jello. I found it disgusting.

Yes, when I do actually have a soda (which is pretty rare now), I will choose the paralyzing aspartame filled ones. I'm trying to give thos up completely. I still use splenda, though, for now.
Peppermint tea is ok for me, depending on when I've last eaten. Altoids = ow.

I have to wait for my stomach to settle before even drinking plain water. I've tried the lemon juice in water for about a week and had the hardest time keeping it down.
It doesn't seem weird to me, though. I used to recommend people eat an orange when they had heartburn because it would act like an alkaline in their stomach and get rid of the heartburn. It worked pretty well for many people.

My daughter would get this from eating avoids as well.  Every time it happens, she can go backwards and determine what avoid she has been eating...   She tosses it out of her diet.   

Pretty soon, she will be eating the real Teacher diet...

Well, I have done a lot of eating avoids over the years. I know I ate avoids last night and I know that I was also on the wrong GTD before, too. This is good news, though, and gives me hope. Thanks
