Description

Haplogroup V is a human mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) haplogroup.

Haplogroup V is believed to have originated approximately 12,000 years before present, possibly in Iberia. It is found with particularly high concentrations in the Saami population of northern Scandinavia, as well as the Basque people.

Source

Haplogroup V derives from the Haplogroup HV, which also gave rise to Haplogroup H.

In his popular book The Seven Daughters of Eve, Bryan Sykes named the originator of this mtDNA haplogroup Velda.
