Nutrition
The Blood Type Diet is a concept that links the most appropriate food, lifestyle and environmental factors for an individual with that person's [ABO Blood Group]?.
History
The Blood Type Diet was brought to prominence by [Peter D'Adamo? Dr. Peter D'Adamo] in his book Eat Right 4 Your Type (ER4YT). Published in 1997, ER4YT is a worldwide bestseller, printed in over 50 languages.

Eat Right 4 Your Type
The book was based on [Peter D'Adamo? Peter D'Adamo's] experience in clinical practice, the idea originating from the work of his father, Dr. James D'Adamo, who published the books One Man's Food - Is Someone Else's Poison in 1980, and The D'Adamo Diet in 1989.
James D'Adamo's books were based on his initial observations while working in European health spas, where he noticed that some patients thrived on vegetarian low-fat diets while others worsened. He found that the reason was due to a patient's blood group, and incorporated the link with blood groups and diet into his naturopathic practice.
Discussion
Research into blood groups in the scientific literature reveals thousands of studies in diverse areas, for example:
- [Disease and ABO blood groups]?
- Lectins? in foods and herbs, and their interaction with blood groups
- [Genetic linkage]? to blood group genes
- Polyamines? and their connection with ABO blood group
- The effect of the environment on individuals of different blood groups
ER4YT is a relatively simple self-help book, which can be used by anyone who knows their ABO blood group. In addition to ABO typing his patients, [Peter D'Adamo]? also became aware of the importance of [Secretor Status? secretor status] in clinical practice. Later books by Peter D'Adamo include dietary variations according to secretor status and/or current disease status, and other minor blood groups. These additional factors further enhance the individuality of the Blood Type Diet programme.
