ALA agglutinates human red blood cells regardless of their blood group . The isolectins ALA-I and ALA-II have similar binding specificity towards asialomucins and similar blood type agglutination recations. See: carbohydrate Res. 1987 (159); 137-148 It also reacts with pig, buffalo, cow pigeon, sheep, rat mouse, duck and rabbit erythroctes. See: carbohydrate Res. (1980); 97-110 Rat lymphocytes and mice ascites cells are also agglutinated. See: Phytochemistry 1995 (40); 1331-1334
