|
| Lecster ID:505 | Edit Entry |
| Source Organism: | Tepary bean |
| Species: | Phaseolus acutifolius |
| Common Nomenclature: | |
| Class: | Legume lectins |
| Index Nomenclature: | LECp.Pha.Acu.se.Hcu1 (erythroagglutinin) LECp.Pha.Acu.se.Hcu2 (lymphoagglutinin) |
| Characterization Notes: | |
| Biological Activity: | The haemagglutinating P. acutifolius isolectin F2 reacts with erythrocytes from most animal species and the lymphoagglutinin T2 is a potent agglutinin for isolated human lymphocytes. See: Phytochemistry 1987 (26);1009-1013 When incorporated into artificial diets for the important seed-feeding bruchid, Acanthoscelides obtectus, a partially purified lectin preparation that could not be adsorbed by thyroglobulin-Sepharose affinity chromatography significantly increased the time required for larval development. However, mortality levels were not increased with increasing doses of the lectin. Plant Physiol 1990 (93); 1453-1459 |
