Molecular structure of
Restharrow:

Ononis spinosa

Lecster ID:473 Edit Entry
Source Organism:Restharrow
Species:Ononis spinosa
Common Nomenclature:
Class:Legum lectins
Index Nomenclature:LECp.Ono.Spi.ro.Hga1
Characterization Notes:A similar lectin was isolated from the roots of Ononis hircina See: Biochim et Biophys Acta 1978 (539); 287-293
Biological Activity:It is relatively specific for human type O erythrocytes that are agglutinated at a minimal lectin concentration 0.3 microgram/ml. The lectin agglutinates A, B and O erythrocytes with a preference for O erythrocytes. The lectin is not mitogenic when tested with rabbit lymph node lymphocytes. See: Biochim et Biophys Acta 1978 (538);299-315
Source Tissue:Root
Specificity:GalNAc(>Gal>Lac)
Inhibitors:Inhibited most effectively by N-acetyl-D-galactosamine and a number of D-galactose derivatives.
