| Species: | Homo sapiens |
| Common Nomenclature: | Alpha-2 / Beta-1 integrin |
| Class: | Integrin A (or I) domain |
| Index Nomenclature: | INTh.Hom.Sap.xx.Xxxx |
| Characterization Notes: | Alpha2/beta1 is a receptor for collagen-I to VI, laminin and possibly fibronectin. It is expressed on B and T lymphocytes, platelets, fibroblasts, endothelial cells and melanoma cells. This receptor is also known as VLA-2 (very late activation antigen 2), GPIa-IIa (glycoprotein Ia-IIa on platelets) and ECMRII (extracellular matrix receptor II) See: http://www.rcsb.org/pdb/cgi/explore.cgi?pdbId=1aox Integrin a2b1 is a cell surface adhesion receptor for collagen and the human pathogen echovirus-1. Integrin alpha 2 beta 1 is a positive regulator of collagenase (MMP-1) and collagen alpha 1(I) gene expression. See: J Biol Chem. 1995 Jun 2;270(22):13548-52 |
