|
| Lecster ID:32 | Edit Entry |

| Species: | Allium ascalonicum |
| Common Nomenclature: | AAA |
| Class: | Monocot mannose-binding lectins |
| Index Nomenclature: | LECp.All.Asc.bu.Hma1 |
| Characterization Notes: | AAA also reacted strongly with the highly branched yeast mannan obtained from Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The lectin occurs as a natural mix of isolectins. Pure preparations of shallot lectin strongly inhibit MT-4 cells by HIV-1 and HIV-2 in vitro. See: Plant Mol. Biol. 1993 (23): 365-376 |
| Biological Activity: | The lectin readily agglutinates rabbit erythrocytes, but not human. See: Phytochemistry 1991 (30): 509-514 |
| Source Tissue: | bulb |
| Specificity: | d-mannose |
