IFHI 2011 FACULTY: BARBARA SIMINOVICH-BLOK
Dr. Barbara Siminovich-Blok received her degree in Naturopathic Medicine in 2009, and was the recipient of the Douglas Lab Clinical Excellence Award. She possesses two Master degrees: one in Biochemistry and one in Biotechnology. Her Bachelor Degree is in Chemical Engineering. In 2010, she graduated Summa Cum Laude with an MS in Acupuncture from the University Of Bridgeport (UB) Acupuncture Institute.
Dr. Siminovich has presented research at several Biochemistry conferences in Mexico, a poster at the 2004 Biophysics Symposium, and Faculty Talks and Grand Rounds at UB and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of NJ (UMDNJ). She has a long-standing teaching career in the sciences, having taught at the Universidad Iberoamericana (Mexico), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), Rutgers University, UMDNJ, and UB.
A native of Argentina, Dr. Siminovich is fluent in several languages and practices Martial Arts, including Qi Gung, Hapkido, and Kuhapdo. Some of her professional interests and specialties include pain management, biochemical research and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Qi Gong -an ancient Chinese system of postures, exercises, breathing techniques and meditations- means "energy cultivation". It is designed to improve and enhance the body's Qi. According to Chinese medical philosophy, Qi is the fundamental life energy responsible for health and vitality. Daily Qi Gong exercises have been shown to ease pain, increase joint range of motion, and help lower anxiety and depression.
