I have to limit my carbs at each meal to about 30% of my food intake, protein to about 50% and fat to about 20%. I do this at every meal. If I eat more carbs than that I get very sleepy almost immediately. The balance is the key for me. I use some soy protein powder in my oatmeal bars so I don't have to consume so much meat,fish,etc. I also add fiber to these bars in the form of oat bran cereal, rice bran, psyllium husks, ground up pearled barley, or ground up flaxseeds. Nuts are also added to the bars and dates and apples. This gives a lot of fiber. If I eat more protein (like on Adkins) I don't have my brain work so good. This balance - the Zone modified for me - works.
