Hi, Sharon! The skin, our largest organ, does absorb quantities of what it is exposed to. Using the principle that there are no closed systems, what you put on your mucous membranes (the inside of your mouth, your gums) is absorbed more readily than substances placed on the more collagen-protected outer skin. Mucous membranes also sustain more scratching and cutting without noticeable discomfort (because they heal so fast), but thereby are doorways into the bloodstream for whatever you expose them to. It's a good idea, especially if you are following the diet strictly, to check your shampoo, moisturizer, hairspray, make-up, etc. for avoids. It's not fun, but it pays off. I've noticed a significant difference in the health of my skin depending on what kind of water I used! Alas, more things to sort out! It's worth it, though! cheerio!
