Spitsyn VA et al 96 correlated bllood type factors with transferrin type with endometriosis. Bandyopadhyay AR 1994 correlated predominant A1A2BO, Rh-D to transferrin type TF*C in a particular population. It would be interesting to see if HH turned out to be multi-gene, since of course not all type A's display it, but a coincidence of several genes might have a more causal pattern (ABO, Rh, genes which sit near Rh..and so on. I am just speculating, but the research that is not specific to HH seems to link transferrin to more blood type factors as you suspected.
