Combining animal proteins and fruits

Is there any current data to support the theory that eating fruit with animal protein (at the same meal) produces intestinal fermentation and interferes with digestion? I experience bloating, gas, and occasional diarrhea after this combination and have read that supposedly fruits digest at a much faster rate than animal protein and should therefore be eaten 2 hours before or 4-6 hours after meat.
