Reflections of the work of David McClellan as it pertains to these Boards

David McClellan, a Harvard social psychologist, noted that the content of children's stories differed from country to country.
The prototype story might be how children deal with being on a desert island.
In countries that were undergoing economic growth, the story would be likely to focus on the practical issues of finding material for a boat and how to build it.
In countries that had reached their peak, the story would be likely to focus on leadership issues.
In countries that were on the down-slide, a children's story would be likely to focus on what a jolly time they had, without dealing with either the technical issues or the management issues.
When these Boards opened up in 1997, they were definitely about the practicalities of how to be healthy. By the end of 1997-beginning of 1998, we were taking more time to look at leadership issues. Recently we have seen more attempts at jollity without much content about health.
I hate to feel rudderless, yawing in the troughs, when we could be steering a true course.
