Hi, Paul! Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea)are legumes; "groundnut" is a nickname for peanuts, but the Groundnut I've mentioned produces fleshy tubers rather than shells & beans, and has no other name. Apios americana may not be used widely anymore (like a number of grain foods revived recently) and it's quite possible no one here is familiar with it.
Ah, well! Now my curiosity is Really piqued. I'll go nosing around elsewhere. tx & cheerio heidi
