collard green recipes-please

Now it's my turn to do a liver cleanse and I'm supposed to eat 1/2 c. steamed collard greens for the next 6 days. I put them in my steamer and the results were not great (tough). Being from the north collards were not included in our diets and the only recipies I have found call for cooking them in water or with other foods. So if anyone can pass along some tips on where I'm making my mistake for successfully steaming them I would appreciate it. Also, this maybe a silly question but would I measure 1/2 c. of greens before or after they are cooked, since they wilt down quite a lot after cooking would the raw amount be double or triple for the correct cooked amount?
