Is fat/choleterol mania a cause of new health problems?

In Response To: Is cholesterol level of 117 too low? (Pete R)
I recall years ago learning in a college physiology class that among other things, fats and cholesterol are necessary building blocks for the myelin sheaths that insulate nerve bundles. I wondered back then if we would see the mania to eliminate fats and lower cholesterol lead to a spate of neurological diseases. The nervous system can't be maintained if it lacks the proper raw materials. Just a thought.
