Yes, get litmus paper! Thats what I do. You hold it in the midstream AM urine. You can get it from an ND or from any medical lab, cheap, along with a sort of gauge to go by (the color the paper turns tells you how acidic and basic you are). Any healthfood store has lists of acid and alkaline forming foods. I just picked up one last week and tried it out. I was waaaay to basic, I ate eggs, nuts, honey, feta and a few veggies that day and by the next day I was too acidic. I've been playing around with it, it's intersting. Of course, that's a kind of crude way to find out, but i think it's better to learn to deal with your own body rather than being at someone else's mercy:)
