I'd be interested in seeing Birdie's information on Yerba Mate causing bladder cancer and being dangerous for people with liver problems. I did a medline search on mate and ilex paraguariensis (it's botanical name), and found that there is indeed a 1.6 fold increased risk for heavy smokers who drink mate developing lung cancer, and an increased risk for espophageal cancer amongst heavy drinkers of hot (not warm or cold) mate. It also is a powerful antioxidant, having the ability to prevent oxidation of LDL cholesterol, certainly a good thing. Richard
