I'm an A, and enjoy Pilates...

In Response To: Anyone have an opinion on what types benefit from Pilates exercise? (NMI) (Mark)
After reading a web page describing Pilates as non impact, like yoga and tai chi, I was sure it would be perfect for me. And now I'm convinced.
Two of my classmates are O's and they are seeing great results also. Actually, if you have a good instructor he/she will tailor your workout to your body. The O people seem to sweat a lot in their workout, and rest less than I do. It all depends on how you respond.
Pain is a sign to stop; there are hundreds of exercises - your instructor should be able to give you alternate ones that don't hurt. You don't push it if you can't handle it yet - you'll progress.
The hardest thing in Pilates is to find someone who really knows what they're doing. Unfortunately, being certified as an instructor doesn't guarantee quality.
A friend's husband hurt his back pretty badly as a result of prodding by an instructor in a well regarded Mexican spa. He was told it was Pilates, but who knows if the person was certified, and if so, what experience he had.
(I remember the old joke - "What do they call the guy who graduated LAST place in his medical school class?" Answer: "Doctor").
