Getting involved in this discussion brought my mind back to John Steinbeck. I was thinking mainly of his discussions about life and evolution with Ed Ricketts, and also the discussion about Jefferson, Lenin, and Marx in GRAPES OF WRATH. I keep wanting to use the same arguments, here. Results, not causes. Results, not causes. Poorly fed parents, toxins, psychological pollutants, etc. are results of a society of greed, oppression, sexism, training boys to be expendable soldiers. Even over-population is a result of the oppression of women. --- Then I want to take the philosopher/anthropologist view of Ed Ricketts and say that we are the result of millions of years of evolution and we have amazing powers to adapt and survive. What that will look like is the question. I wonder if we will have to evolve new blood types and personalities, or if we can just find the best of what's already in us by giving our children the good, loving attention they need, as well as a good diet.
