If an intensive colon cleanse is done, reinocculation of the bowel with probiotics (acidophilus... and FOS) are generally required. There are approx. 100 trillion bacteria in the colon and they serve many functions such as B vitamin production, immunity.... I like the Comprehensive Digestive Stool Analysis from Great Smokies for a dysbiosis index and breakdown of the intestinal flora.
