Gout

My sister recently told me she was diagnosed with gout, and that the doctor cited high protein as being a possible link to the disease. Our grandfather and one of our uncles had gout as well, which leads us to think there might be a genetic link. I have been on the Type "O" diet for over six months now, and although I have experienced many benefits associated with this diet, I'm concerned about this possible link between high protein and the disease. Should I be concerned about this?
