In Response To: Eating Out (Philip Bennett)
This really isn't a problem once you resign yourself to the fact that sandwichs, pizza, pasta and traditional fast food (burger and fries) are out of the question. After six months on the diet I have it down. Do Asian or Indian food. Watch out for Chinese, because they use corn starch in most of their dishes, especially the soups and more traditionally turisty dishes like sweet and sour pork. Beef Chow Fun is a great choice, or Beef Fried Rice. Thai and Japanese is better, because they don't traditionally use corn starch, wheat noodles or peanut/seasame oil. If you order noodle dishes like chow mein, ramen soup, saimen soup, and udon soup make sure you ask if the noodles are rice. If asian food is not plentiful, then try ordering the fresh catch, dinner salad or a steak. Sometimes the soup is a good order if not cream based. For fast food, I get a steak burrito w/out cheese and sour cream and eat the insides, throwing out the tortilla. There you have beef, pinto beans--very beneficial, and rice!
