Liver biopsies should be a rare instance. They are not used routinely or as the first step in diagnosing. They are very painful, as I understand you must be 'punched' in 6 different regions of the liver to get a comprehensive sample. I'm not sure what the indications for this particular biopsy are, but would caution to get a second opinion on getting a liver biopsy done.
