Waited to long

I am a Type O - I have reached the point I can not work out for long periods or even very heavy. I am just to out of shape and over wait, with back problems.
What is the best way to get started taking the wait off and getting back in shape?
You hear a lot about eating fats - making it hard on your arteries. So if I go to a high meat diet - wouldn't that effect my arteries???
I am willing to give this a try - I am sure it can not be worse than what I am doing now.
Any ideas on what will help me get started would be great.
