Thallasemia Minor/Mediterranian Anemia

I have Thallasemia Minor and have been told many conflicting things about carrying this gene. What can you tell me about it and how should I modify the diet? Could this mal shaped red blood cell be causing me to feel weak, tired, have a lack of concentration towards the end of the day and some times feel physical pain all over (especially in the arms and legs)?
