In Response To: Celiac Sprue & A type! (Sookie)

I was wondering about celiac sprue and O type. My mother, my brother and I all became very ill within years of each other. We all became sick after a bout with the flu. Our symptoms were remarkably similar. My brother became ill first with weight loss, dizzyness, ear ringing, fatige, etc.. Then my mother became ill with weight loss, diareha, food intolerances, fatigue, muscle weakness, and awful stomach pain. When they went down in her stomach with a scope they found a huge ball of hardened and calcified undigested food. She was diagnosed with gastro-paresis. They also found a couple of ulcers, none of which had shown up on her barium x-ray. I was the next one to become ill with weight loss, food intolerances, fatigue, muscle weakness, etc.. I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia. When I went on the high protein diet they gave me, I immediately began to gain weight and felt somewhat better. When I didn't fully recover, I changed to a high carbohydrate diet and immediately became very ill losing all the weight I had gained and becoming bedridden. I wa then diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The weight loss for all 3 of us was so severe that people thought we looked anorexic. My brother self diagnosed himself as having celiac disease and he is the only one of us who is fully functioning. I thought he was crazy at the time but now I am beginning to wonder iff he was right and that all 3 of us have it. My mother and I are type O, not sure about my brother. My father and sister had a different blood type and were spared, although my father did die of cancer of the esophagus.
