Dr. D'Adamo,
Last year I went on the Zone Diet. After years
of high carb dieting, it worked well. I went from
217 lbs. to 175 lbs. with a tremendous amount of
energy. Most of what I was doing on the Zone Diet
agreed totally with what you are recommending for type
A's except I was not consuming as much protein from
soy based products. Instead, I used chicken, turkey, and
dairy. Based upon your recommendations, I have cut
all dairy proudcts (except for an occasional string
cheese) out of my diet and am using fish and tofu and
egg beaters for protein sources. I will not touch
grains like wheat, as they are high on the glycemic index
and, they along with corn syrup, cause terrible insulin
responses for me. Here's my three questions:
1) I run 12 miles a day at a slow pace of 10 minutes
per mile about six days a week. Since changing
my protein sources I have felt weak.
Any ideas why this is happening?
2) You mention that dairy products cause insulin
responses in type A's. I BELIEVE YOU. No more
quick lunches with cottage cheese for me. But,
dairy products, such as cottage cheese have
carbohydrates in them which cause an insulin
response not matter what blood type. Am I to
understand that type A's have an even more
exaggerated insulin response to the dairy carbs?
3) I understand why you recommend peanuts for
type A's. Please expand on why you do not
recommend peanut oil. I ask because peanuts
contain peanut oil and I like(d) to stir fry
with it.
I have a grandmother who is 0-. I cannot wait to
share your ideas with her. It's amazing how many of
here medical problems you have pinpointed. Keep
up the GREAT work.
Thanks in advance for your time -
Malcolm
