I am doing great! I have lost what used to be an intense craving for sweets, particularly soda. Been "soda free" for over 14 days and I don't miss it or think about it at all. =20
I am reading a plethora of books right now, looking for differences and similarities between theories, methodologies and results. Several of the other physicians refer to "genetic tendencies" toward gaining or losing weight, depending upon the diet (such as Drs. Sears (rags severely on high CHO diets) and Ornish (praises them to the heavens). Dr. Chopra discusses three Ayurvedic Body Types and I wonder if there is a connection between his body types and blood type. It is all so very interesting to me! What an interesting research project it would make if they were to go back and look
at their subjects's blood types and relate them to success and failure rates/experiences.
By the way, why didnt you send me a virtual "slap". Correction: Pritikin was not a doctor. Anne Louise Glittleman, former director of Pritikin's Longevity Center, has seemed to strike a balance in her writings and promotes much more protein than before while launching a campaign similar to Sears against CHOs. Meanwhile, back at the dietitian=92s ranch, it's what Sears calls the "politically correct diet of the associations". The ones that are killing people.
Well, I have to get to the bulletin board. Questions abound. Talking briefly with Dina helped get my perspective adjusted to using your materials in my teaching. I am in Florida, preparing to go aboard another Navy vessel on Monday to teach 100 civilian mariners "how to eat" for a healthy heart. I started the program with them over two years ago and I love this project.
The majority of my audience averages 45-50 years old, are overweight, sedentary, and smoke. I have an executive chef who joins me and he conducts hands-on training courses in the galley while I teach the crew. We institute a new menu, explode their purchasing possibilities and push them outside of the Armed Forces Recipe File. (I actually run a computer software firm which specializes in food service management software, including nutritional analysis. We work a great deal with the corrections industry. It's my love for nutrition and my passion for education that keeps me in the thick of this project.)
