Chemo and Multiple Myeloma

Hi, Dr. D'Adamo
I spelled your name right this time. I have another question on behalf of my friend with the multiple myeloma. Her oncologist is giving her chemo. She does not tell him that she is taking all sorts of anti-oxidents, maitake mushrooms, Essiac tea, and extracts of vegetables. She saw her doctor yesterday because she was feeling so awfully tired. He was amazed at how well she was doing--her platelets were great, hemoglobin was almost 12, her white count was o.k. But she was complaining that just about every lymph gland in her body was swollen. He merely said, "I guess you have an infection somewhere in your body." She wants to know could the lymph gland swelling be from cancer cells being processed. Today she said the glands are down some. What I don't understand is if chemo destroys the immune system, how can she ever recover from the cancer?
