Basques, Rh- and O

A visitor to the Guestbook asked if I knew that the Basques, an "ancient people" had very high rates of Rh-. Yes, I do, the work in that area being done by AE Mourant, how speculated that the combination of O, Rh- was the one without any blood type antigens, and was therefore more "primitive".
It is also interesting to speculate on the evolutionary advantage to Rh- status, which has been suggested to have resulted from an attempt by Nature to terminate diabetic offspring early, rather than allow them to develop to only an early age and suffer accordingly.
