Dear Judith, I recommend estriol-based estrogen replacement for type A's as this estrogen fraction can help LOWER the rate of mammary cancer, rather than raise it (which is what conventional Premarin, largely estradiol, does). Your gynecologist can prescribe "Estrase", a synthetic form of estriol, usual dose being 2-6 mg daily. Women are quite variable in the amounts needed to achieve diminishment of hot flashes, so you may have to fiddle with it. Another brand, used by many naturopaths, is "Osta B3" which is derived from soy and contains natural estriol. You'll need to work with a naturopath to gain access to this compound. Peter D'Adamo
