I've been a victem of PMR for 7 years. Most of
the info is very sketchy, but I can tell you that
my symptoms came on like gang-busters! Felt like
a SEVERE case of flu - I was begging my doctor for
help, lying in fetal position in bed, afraid to
move because of the pain.

Dr. first diagnosed it as fibromyalgia, which was
not helped by traditional treatment for said
condition. He finally got me in to see a
rheumatologist, who knew immediately what was
wrong. Yes, prednisone, in gradually decreasing
doses was the answer, but side effects really bad!
Lose weight? Not at all - just the opposite has
happeneded to me! I've put on 50 pounds! With
two bad knees, this extra weight resulted in
surgery on both knees (which effects were not
lasting). I've had a relapse, and am presently on
5 mg. prednisone, but can't seem to get any lower.
Also am taking Meprobamate (brand name: Ansaid),
which is the only NSAID which helps me. Among
the other side effects of all these drugs, is a
need for Prilisec for reflux, which I cannot take
due to its side effects. HELP! I've GOT to get
off this prednisone so I can lose some weight! By
the way - a disease of aging? I doubt it! I was
only 57 when I contacted this curse! I was active,
busy, positive in attitude, but under a lot of
STRESS - now I barely drag through my day!

Would suggest to researchers that they investigate
the relationship between STRESS and the onset of
this disease.

If any of you have found anything new in the way
of treatment, PLEASE let me know!!!
