Dear Sally, Many patients report an excessive amount of mucus when they first start the diet. This is a cleansing mechanism, as the system is sloughing off old mucous as it attempts to manufacture new stuff. This clears up in time, usually 1-2 weeks. However, be alert to signs of a sinus infection, such as fever, headache, etc. Peter
