I stumbled across this site just today -
fascinating stuff, BTW! So please forgive if I
come across as if I haven't quite grasped the full
picture here. My interest was aroused by a thread
in April regarding O's with high tissue Calcium &
Ketosis. One of the responses mentioned the high
frequency of Bi-Polar (manic depression) in O's,
and the disruption high-carb diets causes in those
afflicted with BPD. I have a family history of
this disorder, do not have it myself, though have
been diagnosed and treated for depression. Did the
anti-depressant thing with success (Prozac), but
gained 40 pounds in about 4 months, then decided I
had to find another treatment.
Went on a low-carb diet, lost 22 pounds, then
stalled out. Was still having some problems with
the depression, so began taking a natural Lithium
supplement called Lithinase. It has worked very
well for me. If I understood the previous post
correctly, this may not be such a good idea.
Can you help me understand why, and whether there
may be a better option? Don't know if it's
pertinent, but I did have a hair analysis that
indicated very low levels of lithium; this,
coupled with my family history, was the basis for
my (Alternative Medicine) Doctor recommending
the Lithinase.
Thanks.
