Synthroid (levothyroxine) is identical to naturally occurring T4. There is no way to distinguish natural T4 from synthetic T4. In some cases, people have an inability to convert T4 to the active metabolite, T3. In these cases, T3 therapy may be useful. See a board certified endocrinologist for further assesment.
