In Response To: Sed rate & Parasitosis (Bev Schermerhorn)

Dear Bev,

PMR is one of the so-called "collagen vascular diseases" or "giant cell" arteritis. It does tend to resolve in time, but this varies from women to women. One helpful hint to try and lower the sed rate is to use a proteolytic enzyme from pineapple called "bromelain" (avalable at any health food store). Typical usuage is 500mg 2-3 times daily away from food. Another idea is to boost the anti-inflamatory "good prostaglandins" by introducing a source of gamma linoleic acid into the diet. This is best done by taking a supllement called black current seed oil (type A's can also use "Evening Primrose oil" . Typical doses are 2-3 capsules once or twice daily away from food.

You should also, of course, follow the type A diet outlined in the book.

Hope this helps,
Peter
