In Response To: coffee substitutes (again I know) (Cindy J (o+))
My latest discovery after finding out that my beloved Teeccino is now an O avoid (due to the barley and dates) is a product called Dacopa. It is made from roasted dahlia (a plant) and although not quite the same as coffee (what is), it seems to work for me as a hot, comforting beverage. It is most similar in body and consistency to the grain-based coffee substitutes which are no longer allowed for us O's.
I haven't seen it at Whole Foods, but they carry it in Wild Oats. I'm sure your local health food store would order it for you.
I also drink roasted dandelion root tea, but it has the body and consistency of tea, not coffee.
